By supporting missionaries, you are promoting the mission of Christ which seeks to spread the Gospel for the salvation of the world. You are therefore a missionary in your capacity as a Friend of St Patrick's Missionary Society. Christ depends on the commitment of Christians as witnesses to carry on, support and propagate the Gospel message and its values towards establishing the kingdom of God on earth.
St Patrick’s Missionary Society was founded on St Patrick’s Day 1932 and for 90 years has continued the work of spreading the Gospel, following the words of Jesus:
Go, therefore, make disciples of all nations; baptise them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and teach them to observe all the commands I gave you. And look I am with you always; yes, to the end of time. (Matt 28:19-20)

In the Scripture, Christ Says "The harvest is rich but the labourers are few; (Luke 10:2). Follow me and I will make you fishers of men (Mark 1:17). Go therefore into the world and proclaim the good news to every creature (Mark 16:15)
God of creation and salvation, as the Good Shepherd, you continue to call us to serve in your Church as Missionary Priests to your needy people and places. May your Holy Spirit inspire, guide and strengthen me to discern your call to minister your love to our thirsty world. I entrust my vocation aspiration to the wise counsel of the Blessed Mother Mary, the passionate love of our Saviour Jesus Christ and the intercession of St Patrick. Amen.
Initial training (which is called 'formation') takes place in one of two centres, Ijebu-Ode in Nigeria or Nakuru in Kenya. This lasts for two years and provides an introduction to prayer, spiritual life and community living as well as some practical skills.
For the next stage of training, candidates move to KwaPatrick, our house in South Africa, where university studies in Philosophy are undertaken, along with growing experience of pastoral engagement.
Students undertake their theological studies in Nairobi, as members of Tangaza University College. During this period, students are given their 'First Missionary Assignment' an extended pastoral assignment in one of our missions. This is a break from formal study to allow a deepening experience of pastoral work.
Students are normally ordained as a Deacon at the beginning of their final year of study in Kenya. Priestly ordination follows in the next year, usually in the home Diocese.
